HOW TO FRAME AND
DISPLAY
YOUR 100% ART CARDS
This page shows
just how easily you can transform 100%
Art
greeting
cards into wall or tabletop art for your home or office. Our
5x7" card size makes
finding frames easy, affordable, and fun. 5x7" and 8X10" frames
are standard sizes that are
sold everywhere: Department stores, art supply stores,
drug
stores, second hand stores, garage sales, you name it.
Your frames do
not
need to be pristine. In fact, a shabby chic frame lends a bit of
style
in and of itself. Frames do more than just
display your artworks. They also protect them
from
dust, moisture, fingerprints, ketchup--whatever. Matting adds
an additional layer of protection by separating the surface of the
artwork from the glass or acrylic, where moisture can form. And
matting also
kicks the display power up a notch, because you can size it up to fit an 8x10" or larger frame.
Art supply stores and frame shops usually sell matting "scraps" very inexpensively. Those scraps are perfect for 5x7" and 8x10" home framing jobs. And, while your frame can have a history, matting should always be museum quality pristine, and you should have the framer cut it. You want it to be properly "weighted" (cut wider on the bottom) and to have a nice beveled opening for your artwork. The framer will also make sure the artwork is properly mounted on a backing board sized for your frame and aligned with the opening in the matting. And, if you need them, the framer will usually throw in a bit of wire and a couple of screws.
The examples above are all 100% Art customizable cards and, as prints, work well with one of the many varieties of white matting. However, that does not mean you should shy away from colored matting. But don't overwhelm your artwork, and do consider the colors in the room where the art will be displayed.
Although 5x7" and 8x10" frames are used in these samples, you are not limited to those two standard sizes. When it comes to framing, the possibilities are endless. Get creative, have fun, and don't get hung up on "doing it right". Just do it, and enjoy the beauty of artwork in your surroundings. |
